This conference will offer insight into the motives behind Moscow’s behaviour in the Gulf, considering Russia’s growing role in the Middle East and its desire to protect national interests using a wide arrange of means. The event will result into the publication of the monograph that will target the wide audience of readers with the aim to allow them to generate informed prognosis about Moscow’s moves in this area over the next five years. In contrast to most studies of Russia’s presence in the Gulf, this conference as well as the subsequent publication will consider traditional areas of Russian involvement in the Gulf region from two stand points – the Russian angle and foreign experts (primarily from the Middle East). The idea of the monograph is to take several key problems of Moscow’s presence in the Gulf and ask to cover each of them by two presentors/authors (one from Russia and one from outside of it) in order to offer the audience/readers both Russian and foreign (first of all, regional) perspectives (i.e. each topic will be covered by two chapters devoted to it with the Russian and foreign perspectives respectively).
