I am pleased to extend to you my warmest greetings and to welcome you to the College of Law at Qatar University, the leading institution in legal education in the State of Qatar and one of the most prominent academic pillars in the region.
The teaching of law at Qatar University began in 1993, with the college initially established as a department within the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies. Since 2004, it has evolved into an independent College of Law. Since then, the college has witnessed rapid growth in academic, administrative, and research capacities, as well as in its service to the legal community at the local, regional, and international levels.
Today, the college includes three academic departments and a specialized center — the Center for Law and Development — in addition to publishing a peer-reviewed international journal, the International Review of Law. The college offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in law.
It has earned several prestigious international academic accreditations, including from the British Accreditation Council (BAC) and the High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education in France (HCERES). According to the latest Times Higher Education (THE) ranking for 2025 in the field of “Law," the college was ranked among the top 150 law schools worldwide and secured the first position in the Middle East and North Africa region.
In recognition of the growing challenges facing legal education, we continue to develop our academic programs, enhance infrastructure, improve research output, and uphold comprehensive quality standards - in alignment with the university's vision and strategy and in service of Qatar's national priorities and development strategy.
We also place particular emphasis on linking legal theory with practical application and enhancing the functional dimension of legal texts, with the aim of developing curricula and improving graduate competencies, thus enabling them to make meaningful contributions across various sectors in the country.
