Promotion at Qatar University is a structured academic process aimed at recognizing the accomplishments of faculty members in teaching, research, and community engagement. It plays a vital role in promoting academic excellence, supporting professional development, and advancing the university’s mission. Faculty are assessed based on clear and rigorous criteria that uphold the principles of transparency, fairness, and academic integrity. The process is governed by the University Promotion Bylaws, approved by the University’s Board of Regents, which establish the minimum requirements for promotion and apply across all colleges and research centers. In addition, each college or center develops its own specific Academic Promotion Guidelines to reflect their specialization and needs. Qatar University encourages all academic and research staff—including teaching assistants, lecturers, assistant professors, associate professors, research assistants, research associates, and postdoctoral fellows—to apply for promotion as a way to recognize and reward their contributions in teaching, research, and service to the university and broader community.
