    Message from the Dean

    It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the College of Engineering at Qatar University. Our college is recognized regionally and internationally for its high-quality teaching and learning environment, its outstanding reputation in research, and its high involvement with the community and industry.

    The college was established in 1980 and has played a major role in supplying the industry with highly qualified graduates who have taken the lead in the unprecedented development witnessed in Qatar. The success of the college was driven by the high-quality national and international academic and support staff, the major infrastructure and laboratories, along with the state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. The college continues to equip students with the necessary skills in innovation and entrepreneurship through well-developed, internationally accredited programs to help diversify the economy and support a Qatari knowledge-based economy. The college has 6 academic departments (Architecture and Urban Planning, Chemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical and Industrial Engineering) that administer undergraduate major programs leading to bachelor's degrees, besides postgraduate programs leading to master's and PhD degrees.

    The college is benefiting from a high-quality research environment including top-quality facilities and equipment for carrying out cutting-edge research that addresses the challenges facing the industry in Qatar and beyond. Academic and research staff in the departments and research centers are active in publications in international conferences and top tier journals which contributed to the impressive progress in subject ranking with a number of subjects in the college ranked among the top 151-200 in the world according to the 2025 QS ranking. In addition, there is a significant level of outputs and demonstration of impact to the society including high citations and registration of patents. Over 40 of the academic and research staff of the College of Engineering are listed within the 2% highly-cited scientists in the world for the 2024 displayed in Elsevier Data Repository. The College is the home for three research centers; the Gas Processing Center (GPC), Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center (TTSC), and KINDI Center for Computing Research — which are playing a significant role with other research centers in the university in addressing industrial challenges in the industry in Qatar and the region and contributing positively with the rest of college in research supporting Qatar 2030 National Vision and beyond.

    Community service is a core activity for the College of Engineering and is a key factor in the achieved reputation at national and international levels. The college has contributed significantly over the years in MOUs between the university and the major institutions in the government and private sectors. The college has delivered a large number of training and certification programs for the industry reinforcing the strong academic-industrial links to foster innovation and collaboration. The college's staff serve on national and international committees, providing strong expertise in dealing with challenges, developing practices and standards, and serving on many international scientific boards. The college makes a strong effort in outreach activities and raising awareness about engineering for the school students to ensure the continuation of the students' stream in joining the college in their journey in becoming the next generation that contributes to the continuous rise of Qatar.
