MODU 601 – Introduction to Leadership Concepts and Traditional and Contemporary Approaches
This course focuses on exploring the concept of leadership and understanding both traditional and modern leadership styles, and their role in shaping the traits of effective leaders in service organizations, government agencies, and manufacturing companies. The course aims to develop and refine the leader's personal attributes (such as integrity, transparency, cooperation, honesty) and leadership behaviors (such as directive and supportive styles), as well as the leader's ability to adapt their approach to different situations. Students will gain deep insights into how leadership styles have evolved over time.
MODU 602 – Global Business Strategies and International Trade Development
This course centers on formulating competitive strategies to enhance profitability and create competitive advantage for institutions on a global scale. Students will explore the challenges leaders face when developing and implementing competitive strategies in a global, borderless marketplace. The course includes study of strategic theories applicable to multinational corporations, international NGOs, or government agencies, equipping students with quantitative tools for environmental analysis and strategic planning to lead effectively in complex, unstable global environments.
MODU 603 – Foundations of Successful and Effective Negotiation in Value Creation
One of the key roles of an effective leader is to influence stakeholders to achieve organizational goals. To do this, leaders must possess strong negotiation skills. This course equips students with the core tools and strategies for successful negotiation, including: enhancing bargaining capacity for value creation, addressing issues related to negotiation styles, preparing effective pre-negotiation strategies, maintaining professional relationships without compromising economic outcomes, and managing difficult negotiation situations.
MODU 604 – Leadership Procedures and Policies in Complex and Unstable Environments
Today's business environment is increasingly complex and unstable, especially with globalization and environmental change affecting decisions. This course teaches students how to apply leadership practices and policies to enhance their impact on emerging geopolitical issues, and how to expand their leadership across three key sectors: government, society, and business.
MODU 605 – Leading People at the Local and Global Levels
Globalization has significantly impacted developing economies, causing social, economic, and political transformations and introducing cultural diversity. This course focuses on: (1) Leading policies to drive economic transformation, and (2) Leading multinational teams. Students will explore leadership models tailored to different economic and business environments, shaped by the cultures of business leaders and policymakers.
MODU 606 – Effective Leadership Communication
This course provides students with essential content on effective communication, which is key to building strategic stakeholder relationships. The course develops students' abilities in persuasive and motivational communication to build long-term partnerships. It emphasizes both oral and written communication skills necessary for facilitating coordination with various stakeholders involved in organizational strategies and goals.
MODU 607 – Field Training
Students will visit organizations outside Qatar to engage with institutional leaders and learn about their systems, strategies, and best practices for effective leadership. The field training will be supervised by a qualified leadership mentor. This experience allows students to link theoretical concepts with real-world applications, and helps them identify and refine their research problem for the capstone project.
MODU 608 – Effective Leadership and Crisis Management
Effective leadership greatly influences how institutions respond to and recover from crises. Leaders play a vital role in risk assessment, planning, and managing crises. Post-crisis, leaders help organizations recover and transform challenges into opportunities. This course equips students with crisis management skills, techniques for adapting to emergencies, and strategies for prioritization and contingency planning.
MODU 609 – Research Methods in Management Sciences
This course provides an overview of research methods, designs, and techniques in business administration. It covers both qualitative and quantitative approaches commonly used in academic research. Students will gain foundational knowledge of scientific research models and methodologies, preparing them to conduct research projects aligned with sound methodological principles.
MODU 695 – Capstone Project
The capstone project marks the final phase of the Executive Master's in Leadership program. It offers students the opportunity to apply their leadership skills to address real-world institutional issues. Under faculty supervision, students will develop a research project that includes a leadership development strategy. Goals include: building research and writing skills, formulating and conducting applied research on organizational challenges, and applying leadership skills to design and implement strategic solutions for institutions in Qatar.
